Syriac Orthodox Patriarch Ignatius Aphrem II on official visit to Athens

Syriac Orthodox Patriarch Ignatius Aphrem II of Antioch and all the East will be in Athens from November 13 to November 17 on an official visit to the Church of Greece.

The Patriarch will be received by Metropolitan Nikolaos of Mesogaia and Lavreotiki, Metropolitan Ioannis of Thermopylae, delegates from the Lebanese Embassy and other officials representing the Greek state and church.

On November 14 the Patriarch will meet with Archbishop Ieronymos of Athens and All Greece. Later on the day he will be awarded an honorary doctorate by the University of Athens.

On November 15 Patriarch Ignatius and Archbishop Ieronymos will be paying joint visits to Greek President Prokopios Pavlopoulos, Greek Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras and President of Hellenic Parliament Nikos Voutsis.
