Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew meets with Patriarch Kiril of Moscow in Istanbul

Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew met with Patriarch Kirill of Moscow and All Russia at Phanar in Istanbul on Friday.

Patriarch Kirill arrived at Phanar at 10:00 a.m. under tight security.

In statements to the press, Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew expressed his belief in dialogue. “As political leaders try to resolve their countries’ issue by dialogue, so much more so should religious leaders use this godsend to resolve existing issues,” he said.

Politicians represent their countries, but spiritual leaders ought to defend the ecumenical character of the Orthodox Church, Patriarch Kiril said in turn, calling for unity away from political interests.
