New Democracy Leader Kyriakos Mitsotakis: SYRIZA proposals for revising the Constitution ‘catastrophic’

“I am sorry that this debate, which is a foremost parliamentary procedure, is taking place before empty seats. The revision is left in limbo and it is confirmed that SYRIZA treated even the country’s Constitution as a political tool for creating a cheap diversion,” main opposition New Democracy (ND) leader Kyriakos Mitsotakis said on Thursday, during his speech in parliament during the debate for the revision of the Constitution.

Mitsotakis also added that SYRIZA has tabled “catastrophic” proposals for revising the Constitution.

“I want to reiterate that ND will comply with the country’s constitutional tradition to the letter. The next parliament will not be bound by the direction given by the present government. The next parliament will determine the content of the articles. The attempt to abolish the freedom of the revisional parliament, something that amounts to an indirect admission of defeat by SYRIZA, is an insult to the Greek people,” said Mitsotakis.
