ERT now has its own network, despite detractors, says Pappas

“We have achieved what many did not expect or actively undermined: ERT has its own network,” Digital Policy and Media Minister Nikos Pappas said on Friday, speaking on the occasion of the public broadcaster’s transition to relying on its own network of transmitters and thus becoming independent from the private signal provider Digea.

Talking about the revenue that the development of an autonomous digital network will bring to the public treasury, Pappas said that “this is an investment that will reclaim its cost within a year,” because, as he explained, its cost almost equals the amount the state would have to pay as yearly rent to Digea.
