Christoforos Vernardakis: At the end the modernising forces of the Church will prevail

“The government will exhaust all the room for consensus and, at the end, the modernising forces of the Church will prevail,” State Secretary Christoforos Vernardakis on Monday said in an interview.

Vernadakis called “incomprehensible” main opposition New Democracy (ND) leader Kyriakos Mitsotakis’ attempt to stop the state and church approach, adding that unlike the historical leaders of the party, he attempts to meet the needs of the far-right.

Referring to the government’s moves, he said that it will exhaust all the room for consensus and the agreement between the State and the Church will proceed.

“If we solve all the other issues, mainly issues related to the Church’s property and assets and the characterisation of the clergymen, I think that solutions will be found,” he explained.
