Greece and the Greek people have believed in and supported cultural exchanges, from antiquity to the present, Greek President Prokopios Pavlopoulos said on Friday, welcoming a group of college students from Northeastern University.
The Greek people “believe in the seminal contribution of dialogue between cultures towards establishing peace, democracy and justice throughout the world,” said Pavlopoulos.
Among other issues he spoke about, the Greek president said the European people are “determined not to allow the neo-Nazi remnants to succeed in destroying Europe”. He also warned that all civilizations, including European and Western civilization, crumble when they lose their sense of purpose and direction and can no longer communicate with other cultures.
The American students are visiting as part of a Northeastern History Department program, “Dialogue of Civilizations,” which gives students the opportunity to spend five weeks abroad in the summer learning about foreign cultures.
