Nikos Voutsis on official visit to Portugal

Greek Parliament President Nikos Voutsis is paying an official visit to Portugal, following an invitation by his Portuguese counterpart Eduardo Ferro Rodrigues.

Voutsis was received by Portuguese President Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa, following which he had a series of meetings with Rodrigues, Foreign Minister Augusto dos Santos Silva and Deputy Minister for Parliamentary Affairs Pedro Nuno Santos.

Voutsis referred to the historical ties between the two countries that were strengthened by their recent and similar experiences in the European Union, and expressed optimism about the future of Greece. He referred to progress in several sectors, including the access of two million uninsured to the public health care system, the extension of benefits to more people in vulnerable positions, and an upgrade of the country’s judicial system.
