ND’s Kikilias says: Turkey’s stance over Greek servicemen has ulterior aims

After two months that the two Greek servicemen continue to be detained in a high security prison in Edirne, “it is clear that Turkey’s provocative stance has ulterior aims,” main opposition New Democracy shadow defence minister Vassilis Kikilias said on an interview on Thursday.

“Our allies’ support is useful but we are not satisfied by the fact that it remains strictly verbal,” he added.

He accused the government that “in the last two months, its ministers have different views,” pointing out that government spokesman Dimitris Tzanakopoulos and Defence Minister Panos Kammenos had underplayed the issue from the start.

Referring to the possible leasing of French frigates by the Hellenic Navy, he noted that the government’s poor handling of the issue was harming the prestige of the country and creating a major issue for its image and the morale of the armed forces.
