Tzanakopoulos stresses protection of primary residence is a priority

In the period 2008-2015, Greece’s GDP fell by 30 pct, government spokesman Dimitris Tzanakonopoulos said late on Tuesday.

Asked whether there is disagreement on the negotiations with the institutions on the issue of bad loans and the 120-installment debt settlement schemes, Tzanakopoulos stressed that the protection of primary residences is the government’s top priority.

He also clarified that these discussions are not being held in the context of the “memorandum period”, but that “any issue involving banks in any European country is discussed with the European Stability Mechanism (ESM) and the European Central Bank (ECB).

“There is not any problem, there are a number of technical details that need to be discussed in order to reach an agreement. The debate will continue until March 25 when the EuroWorking Group meets and then we will legislate,” the government spokesman said.
