Greek-US Strategic Dialogue to begin next week in Washington

Greece’s Alternate Foreign Minister George Katrougalos and US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo will inaugurate Greek-US Strategic Dialogue with their meeting next week in Washington, where Katrougalos is to visit at the head of a Greek delegation on December 13-14.

This will launch a process of closer cooperation between Greece and the US on a series of issues of shared interest and, according to diplomatic sources, is a historic development that affirms both the excellent level of Greek-US relations and the scope for further deepening bilateral ties.

For the US, Strategic Dialogue is a process for enhanced cooperation with special geostrategic significance for US interests.

Sources said the discussion will focus on the Western Balkans and Southeastern Mediterranean, with emphasis on Greece’s role through its active policies for peace and stability in the region, which culminate in the Prespes Agreement and the positive momentum it has generated, as well as other Greek initiatives for regional cooperation that have established Greece as a pillar of stability, security provider and a problem resolution factor.

Talks will also cover investments and the development of infrastructure and networks, economic cooperation and migration flows, as well as security and defence issues, the Middle East, terrorism, border security and other issues.
