The willingness to expand the cooperation between Greece and Austria in promoting interreligious and intercultural dialogue on the basis of their common understanding of the fundamental principles of the EU was confirmed at the ceremony held on Tuesday by Deputy Foreign Minister Markos Bolaris with the Ambassador of Austria Andrea Ikic – Bohm.
In particular, Bolaris highlighted the importance of the worldwide interrreligious dialogue and the important role played by metropolitans of Orthodox churches in the countries of Europe. He also emphasised the importance of showcasing the most important manifestations of Greek civilisation, from early antiquity and Classical times, through the periods of the Roman and Byzantine empires up to modern times.
On her part, the Austrian Ambassador emphasised her country’s interest in promoting interreligious dialogue, as demonstrated by her initiatives at the UN and the hosting of the prestigious KAICID Intergovernmental Organisation for Interreligious and Intercultural Dialogue.
She also referred to the successful organisation of the two international conferences of Athens convened by Greek Foreign Minister Nikos Kotzias on “Religious and Cultural Pluralism and Peaceful Coexistence in the Middle East”, with the participation of a large number of political and religious officials from the region, the second of which, in 2017, took place jointly with Austria and the United Arab Emirates. Finally, she thanked the Greek foreign ministry for the Austrian Musical Summer initiative, which has been organised in many Greek cities since 2016, bringing together Greek and Austrian musicians and music students.
