Work on Chania market to start in coming year, says mayor Vamvoukas

The mayor of Chania, Tassos Vamvoukas, is aiming to start work on the restoration of the municipal market, a 15 million euro project, in the next year, he said on Tuesday.

Speaking at a meeting with officials who will conduct the restoration work, Vamvoukas said that this is the most difficult project tackled by the council in decades and that he is aiming to start work on it next winter.

The project is being backed with five million euros from Greece’s public investment program, with the remainder of the amount coming from the council’s budget that could include bank funding.
