Heikos Maas: The Greek people deserve great respect for the completion of ESM programme
“The Greek people and the Greek government deserve great respect for the completion of the ESM’s assistance programme because the burdens of the crisis have been great,” said German Foreign Minister Heiko Maas in statements on Thursday.
Maas also said that he hoped to implement the “historic”, as he called it, Prespes Agreement, as it “contributes to the reconciliation of the peoples and the stability of the whole region.”
In detail, the statement said:
“Germany and Greece have again come much closer. And it is a good time for Greece: A month ago the country completed the ESM programme. The people and the government deserve great respect for this because the burdens of the crisis were very great. And there is also significant progress now in the long-awaited solution to the name dispute between Athens and Skopje. I hope from the heart that the historic agreement will be implemented as it contributes to the reconciliation of the peoples and the stability of the whole region.”
