Giorgos Koumoutsakos: Ankara uses the illegal detention of Greek soldiers as a foreign policy tool

“As in other cases with foreign nationals – Germany and the United States – Ankara uses the illegal detention of Angelos Mitroudis and Dimitris Koutlatzis as a tool for achieving foreign policy objectives,” main opposition New Democracy (ND) Shadow Foreign Minister Giorgos Koumoutsakos said on Sunday in an interview.

It is a completely unacceptable “diplomacy of hostage”, he said.

Regarding the Greek-Turkish relations, Koumoutsakos noted: “We need a new approach to Greek-Turkish relations based on substance rather than image and communication. The so-called communication channel collapsed before it even worked. The next steps must be done with firm determination and on the basis of mutual respect and international law.”
