Announcement of the Greek MFA on FYROM’s decision to rename the airport and the highway

In an announcement published on Tuesday the Hellenic Ministry of Foreign Affairs mentions the following:

“We welcome today’s decision by the government of the former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia to rename the airport located in Skopje into ‘International Skopje Airport‘ as well the highway connecting Skopje with the Greek borders into ‘Friendship Highway‘.

Today’s decision is a positive step towards undoing what has happened in the past decade, creating tension in the relations between the two countries.

It is an important development towards resolving irredentism, and we hope it will be the beginning of a new chapter for the relations between our two countries and peoples”.
