Greece unveils programme to facilitate payment of arrears to social insurance agencies

The Greek government on Thursday unveiled a package of measures aimed at facilitating professionals and enterprises in repaying their arrears to social insurance agencies.

Labour, Social Insurance and Social Solidarity Minister Efi Achtsioglou and deputy Social Insurance Minister Anastasios Petropoulos, signed a ministerial decision specialising the criteria of entering this debt settlement programme for debts accumulated by December 31, 2016.

All professionals or enterprises with total debt up to 20,000 euros to creditors and arrears to social insurance agencies surpassing 85 pct of total debts, or individuals with business activity (lawyers, farmers) and arrears to social insurance agencies up to 50,000 euros, are eligible to be included in the programme.

The programme sets a series of criteria, including income, operating earnings and debt.

The programme offers to debtors the ability to repay their debt in 120 tranches for debts from 3,000 up to 50,000 euros and in 36 tranches for debt up to 3,000 euros.
