Tsipras’ visit to the US confirms Greece’s economic and geopolitical importance, gov’t spokesman says

Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras‘ visit to the US is part of Greece’s multi-dimensional foreign policy and confirms that the country’s economic and geopolitical importance is now upgraded, government spokesman Dimitris Tzanakopoulos said on Thursday in a press briefing. This was also recognised by the US President and other leaders of the world’s most powerful countries that the prime minister has met with, he added.

“After a long period of international isolation for Greece,” he stressed, the prime minister has met both Barack Obama and current US President Donald Trump, he’s had two meetings with Russian President Vladimir Putin, and meetings with Chinese President Xi Jinping, German Chancellor Angela Merkel, French Presidents Francois Hollande and Emannuel Macron, while he has also visited Cuba.
