‘Japan and the book’ exhibition opens on March 4

Artworks from the collections of the Corfu Museum of Asian Art will be on show at the exhibition “Japan and the book”, which will run at the City of Athens Municipal Art Gallery between March 4 and May 3, 2019.

Rare visual artworks dating from the 19th century, including samples of the Ukiyo-e (often translated as “pictures of a floating world”) movement, Manga by the famous Japanese artist Hokushai and rare editions of the books of Lafkadios Hearn (1850-1904).

“Japan and the book” is organised jointly by the City of Athens Culture, Sports and Youth Organization; the Athens 2018 World Book Capital; the Ministry of Culture and the Corfu Museum of Asian Art. It is curated by Despoina Zernioti and Denis Zacharopoulos and will run under the auspices of the Embassy of Japan in Athens in the context of events marking the 120 years since the beginning of diplomatic relations between Greece and Japan.
