Santorini’s Athina Luxury Suites ready to open its doors after renovation

The Athina Luxury Suites, a boutique hotel located in Fira on Santorini, will open its doors on April 1 to the first guests of the season following a period of renovation.

The opening of the hotel’s doors follows an investment of some 800,000 euros, which included a full refurbishment of almost the whole property, the addition of a new infinity heated swimming pool with a pool bar, a new restaurant area with an exterior bar, a new venue for wedding ceremonies and private dinners and five brand new rooms.

Located in Fira, Athina Luxury Suites is perched on the cliffs of the caldera, just meters away from the vibrant town center, and offers breathtaking views, world-class services and an exquisite stay, aiming to offer guests a once-in-a-lifetime experience.

Sharing the news, the hotel’s manager, Panagiotis Iglesis, mentioned that 2018 was a very good year for Athina Luxury Suites and for Santorini’s tourism in general.

“Our hotel saw a very high occupancy rate that reached 93 percent last year,” Iglesis said, adding however that 2019 is predicted to be a more difficult year, with a slight drop in incoming tourism.

“But we hope that it will eventually pick up to the same levels last year… Anyone who has invested in proper infrastructure and empowered its workforce will not have a problem, as the market now provides many choices for visitors across the cost range,” he said.

Infrastructure is essential

Iglesis reminded that Santorini is one of those places in the world that most express a desire to visit.

“This is its advantage, as it is a very strong brand name within the global tourism market,” he told GTP Headlines.

Moreover, Iglesis stressed that Santorini needs additional infrastructure to support the incoming tourist flows and facilitate visitors.

“The island is in need of a better road network, a more organized marina, decentralization of public services from the center of Fira, cleanliness… These issues should be solved before it’s too late and the island suffers the consequences of overtourism,” he concluded.

Athina Luxury Suites operates on a seasonal basis and will remain open until November 30.
