Brace Yourselves: The 8th Half Marathon arrives in Athens on 17 March

The 8th Half Marathon of Athens arrives in Greece’s capital on 17 March aiming to bring a revival of the ancient sports ideal at the height of spring season. Participation in the Half Marathon is expected to reach record high levels. The Marathon’s hosts, the Hellenic Athletics Federation (Segas), issued early estimations on the event, which may exceed the milestone target of 25.000 participants.

The Marathon represents one of the noblest sports of the Olympic Movement. It commemorates the glorious feats of the ancient city of Athens in the war against the Persian Empire. These noble feats took place on the 5th century B.C., during the renowned Golden Era of the ancient Greek civilisation.

The 2019 Half Marathon is complemented by a three-day international exhibition of sports merchandise to be held at the Helexpo Maroussi Exhibition Centre from 14-16 March. The Athens Half Marathon Expo welcomes people passionate with sports and healthy lifestyles to visit the venue and get informed about the latest sports equipment, hours before the official launch of the Half Marathon. The exhibition will also host kiosks providing tips and best practices in the areas of nutrition, personal and sports training. Proud organisers and sponsors of the Expo are the Be Best strategic communications company, the Municipality of Athens and Segas.
