Large quantity of marijuana found in ship docked at Piraeus

The Greek Coast Guard on Wednesday confiscated 52 kilos and 730 grams of marijuana, which were hidden inside a propane tank in a freighter that was docked at Keratsini, Piraeus port.

The Portuguese-flagged 334m freighter was docked at the Piraeus Container Terminal and the propane tank was stuck on a makeshift base on the ship’s hull.

Divers of the coast guard special drugs and smuggling unit checked the hull of ship and found the drugs concealed within the tank, inside 51 plastic packages.

The 47-year old captain of the freighter was arrested.
