New incident in the Aegean between Turkish merchant ship and Greek gunboat

According to the Navy General Staff “it is announced that in the early hours of Friday, May 4, 2018, a merchant ship KARMATE, with a turkish flag, approached and nudged the Greek gunboat AMARTOLOS, in the marine region southeast of Lesvos within the territorial sea of Greece, violating International Regulation for Preventing Collisions at Sea (COLREGs), as the merchant ship was arriving. There were no injuries or serious damages. There was no environmental contamination. After the event, the merchant ship accelerated and strayed far away, moving to the nearest shores of Turkey, without responding to the radio calls of the gunboat AMARTOLOS”.
