Giorgos Kaminis: Exarchia in danger of becoming “no man’s land”

Athens mayor Giorgos Kaminis warned Thursday that Exarchia, a suburb in central Athens, is in danger of becoming a “no man’s land.”

“I will not put up with this sort of neighborhood being in my city – a black hole in the heart of the capital. Two years ago, in one of my countless letters to (Citizen protection Minister Nikos) Toskas, I had informed him of this issue that residents also refer to: that Exarchia is starting to be deserted, state services and organizations are leaving, banks and businesses are also leaving the area,” said the mayor.

The mayor called on Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras to take action and find a way to restore order and normality to an area Kaminis said has been handed over to lawlessness.
