Draft bill on migrants, refugees tabled in Parliament

A draft bill bringing Greek regulations up to date with an EU directive of 2013 on issues relating to migrants and refugees was tabled in Parliament on Thursday.

Among the issues the draft bill calls for are the right of refugee applicants to circulate freely in Greek territory, the remuneration of owners over damages to properties by migrants in Chios and Lesvos, issues of detention and official papers, the ability to work under Greek laws and the guarantee that families will not be separated during applications for asylum.

It also provides pharmaceutical coverage for asylum applicants, protection for minors, and provisions related to granting and renewing emergency residence permits to third country nationals.
