Athens is cautious of Turkish proposals

Athens is reflecting on recent statements the Turkish Minister of Defense, Hulusi Akar, made, that Turkey wants a peaceful solution to the problems in the Aegean, the Eastern Mediterranean and Cyprus.

“Dialogue cannot take place under threats and attempts to create finalities, but with respect to the principles of good neighborliness and based on international law, a key aspect of which is the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea”, said Greek government spokesman Stelios Petsas.

The Greek spokesman added that “if Turkey ceases its provocative acts, then the exploratory talks, which were interrupted through her own fault in 2016, regarding the delimitation of maritime zones, may be resumed”.
