Rita Wilson: Tom Hanks wife received her star on Hollywood Walk of Fame

Greek American actress Margarita Ibrahimoff, namely Rita Wilson, was the honourary recipient of the 2.659 star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame last Friday. Wilson’s star is located only four stars away from her husband’s equivalent, the renowned Hollywood legend Tom Hanks. She was accompanied at the ceremony by her husband and two sons Chet and Truman. The reception was also attended by Julia Roberts, Nia Vardalos and many more Hollywood stars.

Rita Wilson’s Career

The Hollywood actress career began with guest appearances across several sitcoms since early 1972. In 1981, Mrs. Wilson appeared at the Bosom Buddies sitcom where she first met with her future husband Tom Hanks. On television, Mrs. Wilson guest starred in many series, including Fraser and Law and Order: Special Victims Unit, while she also retained recurring roles on The Good Wife and Girls series.

In 2006, Mrs. Wilson made her Broadway debut. She starred in the modern play of the legendary Chicago. In 2008, Mrs. Wilson moved into the production stage, directing the film Mamma Mia!, to be followed in 2016 by the sequel Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again. Mrs. Wilson also helped Nia Vardalos direct My Big Fat Greek Wedding movies and appeared in a supporting role in the sequel screened in 2016.

Besides theatre and television records, Mrs. Wilson also attempted her luck in discography. In May 2012 she issued the debut solo album AM/FM. She also appeared before several formal receptions and events including among others the National Christmas Tree Lighting Ceremony in Washington, DC in December 2014. In the ceremony, Mrs. Wilson performed live for President Barack Obama and his wife Michelle. On 29 March 2019 Mrs. Wilson released her fourth discographic work entitled Halfway to Home. The most renowned song is Throw Me a Party, inspired by her successful long-drawn battle against breast cancer.

Philanthropic Work

Mrs. Wilson and her husband are also renowned philanthropists. They have actively fundraised for the past two decades and co-chaired the Women’s Cancer Research Fund. Mrs. Wilson also contributed to the Moffitt Cancer Center donating precious jewellery from her personal collection. Finally, the couple have persistently supported the Shakespeare Center at Los Angeles, which supports education and employment programmes for underprivileged youth. Additional sporadic assistance has been given to a series of organisations both in the U.S. and abroad, including Greece. Mrs. Wilson was also honoured in 2016 by the Greek National Postal Service (ELTA) which issued a special stamp in its permanent collection to hail the Hollywood Actress Greek origins and contribution to the making of a global Greek brand name.
