“I firmly believe that our two countries are natural allies“, Nikolas Dimitrov, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of North Macedonia, said on Friday in an interview.
He added that it is not often the case nowadays to see politicians thinking more about the next generations and less about the upcoming elections.
Moreover, he said that although he is not a career politician, he knows that when politicians are in the opposition, they have more room to manoeuvre and to adopt positions that they believe will grant them political gains. Politicians who are in power, by contrast, are obliged to primarily to think of their country’s interests before those of their party, he underlined.
Dimitrov stressed that once the Prespes Agreement ‘gets up to full speed’, citizens will start wondering why this was not achieved in the 1990s. At the same time, he added, “we have turned a page, we are in a completely new era, but now the page is white and we have to write on it.”
