The inauguration of “Islamic Calligraphy: The Art of Iranian Writing”, scheduled for Wednesday at the Islamic Museum in the Kerameikos area, will be cancelled as a mark of respect following the death of Angelos Delivorrias, who had been director of the museum for four decades, the board announced on Tuesday.
It will also cancel the activity “Initiation of Neoptolemos” at its main building on Koumbari, Kolonaki area.
In a statement issued earlier, the board and staff said Delivorrias’ death “is an unbearable loss.” The full statement reads as follows:
“The Board of Trustees and the members of staff of the Benaki Museum convey their deepest sorrow for the passing of Academician and Professor Angelos Delivorrias, who steered the Museum for 45 years as its Director and as a member of its Board of Trustees.
His all-encompassing intellect, his trust in humanity, his indefatigable dedication and his boundless creativity became a source of inspiration for all those who were lucky enough to meet him either personally or through his important work.
This is an unbearable loss for all.”
