On the 8th of March, the International Women’s Day is celebrated, commemorating leading female figures in the fight of securing equal rights.
This year in particular, the day is regarded with special interest in the light of the #MeToo campaign, when women from all over the world chose to speak against sexism, sexual harassment and assault. It all started with a simple hashtag on the social media in outrage due to the Harvey Weinstein scandal, but grew to the point of an avalanche that created a social movement vying to empower women through empathy, to tell them that they are not alone.
From the suffragettes who demanded the right to vote, all the way to modern feminists fighting for the abolition of the pay gap and the protection of human rights, women today are trying to have their voiced heard.
The best gift you can offer them is to listen.
