Regarding the unveiling of the head of a statue on Aiolou street in Athens the ministry of culture said that it is the head of Hermes at a mature age and is probably part of an Hermetic column .
The iconography of the sculpture is typical of the type of the Hermes Propylaeus of Alkamenos.
According to the ministry the head found during excavation works at a depth of 4.2 feet (1.3 meters ) is one of many that served as street markers in Ancient Athens.
It appears to be from around 300 BC either from the late fourth century BC or the late century third century the ministry added.
