ERT report: Turkey kept Greek government airplane in air for 20 minutes

Turkish authorities detained a Greek government airplane over the Turkish-Iraqi border, north of Mosul, in the air on Wednesday night, refusing to grant the overflight permit they had been approved a little earlier. After a lengthy intense exchange, the Turkish authorities finally granted the permission and the aircraft landed at the Elefsina military airport with a significant delay.

The airplane was carrying Foreign Minister Nikos Dendias, who was returning to Athens. According to ERT’s diplomatic reporter, Nikos Meletis, this is an act that goes beyond any notion of good neighborliness and violates the rules of diplomatic conduct.

The Greek delegation will raise the issue at the European Council, while a demarche will be made.
