NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg is having successive meetings today with Greece’s political and state leadership in the context of his official visit to Athens.
“Greece is always ready for dialogue in accordance with the rules of international law and good neighborliness. It is up to Turkey to close the road to crisis and pave the way for a solution”, a said Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis, in joint statement with NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg, after their meeting at the Maximos Mansion.
Mr. Mitsotakis asked for consistency and continuity from the neighboring country regarding de-escalation of tensions and the setting of a date for the continuation of the exploratory contacts, with the only issue being the delimitation of the maritime zones.
It should be noted that Mr. Stoltenberg is visiting Athens one day after his trip to Ankara where he met with Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan and Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu.
Earlier, the NATO Secretary General met with Foreign Affairs minister Nikos Dendias and National Defense Minister Nikos Panagiotopoulos at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
Later on today, Mr. Stoltenberg will be received by the President of the Republic, Katerina Sakellaropoulou, at the Presidential Palace.
