The President of the Republic of Cyprus, Nikos Anastasiadis, hosted an official dinner in honor of the President of the Hellenic Republic, Katerina Sakellaropoulou, at the Presidential Palace of Cyprus on Monday night.
During her speech, Ms. Sakellaropoulou stated that she is overjoyed and deeply moved to be visiting Cyprus and that she is fully aware of the responsibility, since her first visit takes place at an extremely critical juncture, in a period of escalation and intensification of Turkish provocation.
“The inflammatory rhetoric of the Turkish political and military leadership is unprecedented. Turkey’s illegal actions have caused unprecedented tensions in the Aegean and the Eastern Mediterranean. Of course, these tensions are not directed only against Greece and Cyprus, but the European Union as well, as it openly undermines peace and stability in the region”, stated the President of the Hellenic Republic.
“Nicosia and Athens’ common and firm message is addressed to all our partners: We are committed to international law and dialogue. We will not, however, succumb to threats, provocations and intimidation that have nothing to do with international diplomacy and the good neighborly relations maintained by modern rule of law”, said Katerina Sakellaropoulou.
Today, on the second day of her official visit, the Greek president will have successive meetings with Cyprus’ political and military leadership.
