Ankara proceeded on Monday with a new NAVTEX directive, effective from 2 to 12 September for the continuation of survey activities of its Oruc Reis vessel, in an area near Kastelorizo, which is approaching the easternmost tip of the EEZ agreed between Greece and Egypt.
The Heraklion station of the hydrographic service of the Greek Navy, issued an anti-NAVTEX, emphasizing that the Turkish NAVTEX is invalid, it has been issued by an unauthorized service and the Turkish activity is illegal, as it concerns an area within the Greek continental shelf.
In a statement, the Greek Foreign Ministry warns that Greece will not be blackmailed and emphasizes that Turkey continues to ignore calls for dialogue and escalate its provocations.
At the same time, the representative of the Commission, Peter Stano, called again on the Turkish authorities to end the unilateral actions.
