This year, the International Museum Day on May 18, will be celebrated digitally via a series of applications and actions that will be posted on various websites and social media platforms.
This year’s theme, as established by the International Council of Museums (ICOM) is “Museums for Equality: Diversity and Social Cohesion”, emphasizes the museums’ social value, which is directly linked to creating experiential experiences that are of particular importance to all visitors, without any exceptions. Museums, as prestigious organizations and carriers of social change and development, are proving nowadays their important role, as they are a point of connection for the various communities, contributing to social cohesion.
The Hellenic Department of ICOM is the hub for the promotion of the initiatives of Greek museums, highlighting the digital activities that will take place in the context of this year’s celebration. Thematic tours, presentations of permanent or individual exhibitions, current tributes, screenings and educational programs, are just some of the events that more than 60 organizations from all over Greece invite the public to watch online via their websites or social media.
You can find the complete program of events on the website of ICOM’s Greek section.
