GreekTech hosted panel discussion on migrating Greek start-ups to US Market

A panel discussion in Central Manhattan, New York took place last week. The discussion revolved around issues of investments, economic growth and entrepreneurial action by Greek-speaking businessmen in the U.S. market.

GreekTech proudly hosted the event. GreekTech is a start-up company institutionalised in Augsut 2018 by Marios Nikolaou. The company’s objective is to facilitate the entry of Greek and Cypriot firms to the U.S. market through establishment of local offices in New York. The start-up’s contribution entail guidance, provision of free office space and network creation opportunities for companies wishing to enter into the U.S. market.

The panel discussion was comprised by three entrepreneurs who have succeeded in their transition to the U.S. market. The three entrepreneurs were John Papadakis, founder and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Pollfish, Michael Boloudakis, founder of Kinems Inc., and Hector Kolonas, founder of Lia D’Alessandro moderated the discussion.

Panel Insights

The discussion focused on the personal stories of the three entrepreneurs, and the transition steps from Europe to the U.S. market. In the follow-up questions and answers (Q&A) session, the panel opened up the discussion with the event’s attendees.  Three secrets of success emerged from this section: a specialist lawyer in immigration issues, a working amount of capital to set up the company, and successful communication with angel investors who would acquire company shares in exchange for the necessary capital to constitute the company competitive in the U.S. market.

At least 120 people attended the event. Prominent personalities included among others the Consul of Greece in New York Lana Zochiou, the Head of the Office of Economic and Commercial Affairs of the Greek Consulate Georgios Michailidis, attorneys George Zapantis and Tasos Pardalis, Hellenic Professional Women President Maria Frantzis, and the President of the Cypriot Young Professionals Jovanna Tannousis.
