Former Migration Policy minister Yiannis Mouzalas said on Tuesday he was “greatly honoured” to be a candidate for SYRIZA on the European Parliamentary elections in May “at a particularly historic moment in Europe.”
A list of 16 candidates for the Europarliament elections in May was released by Syriza the same day. They include, among others, former Shipping minister Panagiotis Kouroublis, head of the Greek Refugees Forum Yonus Muhammedi, and lawyer and member of the Muslim minority Ofuk Mustafa.
In an interview, the former minister said that “the decisions Europe takes very often affect our daily lives to a greater degree than national government decisions may do.” He also cautioned against the rise of the extreme right, saying it will have economic repercussions on daily lives of all European Union people.
His priorities, if voted in, will be the end of austerity, wage equality in Europe, fighting unemployment and improving working conditions.
