Defence Minister Evangelos Apostolakis had a series of meetings in Abu Dhabi on the occasion of his visit to the international defence exhibition IDEX 2019, which started in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) on Sunday.
Apostolakis met with the Prince of Abu Dhabi and successor to the UAE throne Sheikh Mohammed bin Saif Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, as well as his UAE counterpart Mohammed Ahmad Al Bowardi, his Armenian counterpart Davit Tonoyan, Serbia’s Defence Minister Aleksandar Vulin, his counterpart from South Korea Jeong Kyeongdoo, the Deputy Defence Minister of Bulgaria Anatoliy Metodiev Velichkov and the commander of the UAE Air Force, Air Chief Marshal Ibrahim Naser Al Alawy.
“My international meetings and contacts focused on what our analysis is and to what extent are thoughts are aligned with those who face similar problems. The analysis and thinking showed that we are [heading] in the right direction,” said Apostolakis.
“The need for collaboration and cooperation, good relations and support to tackle the major problems that exist at this time in the wider region of Asia and the Eastern Mediterranean, such as terrorism, illegal trade, energy issues, the need for communication lines to stay open and for peace and security to prevail in the region; that was purpose of our meetings and of the exploration of ways in which these relations can be capitalised upon so as to support each other in our concerns,” Apostolakis said.
In parallel he praised the excellent level of cooperation and support between Greece and UAE. Apostolakis also visited the Greek pavilions at IDEX and talked with the exhibitors.
“A very serious effort is taking place to promote the potential of these companies, not only for domestic but also for foreign needs,” he said, adding that the presence of the representatives of the Greek defence industries and the Greek ministry’s general directorate of armaments was very important.
