President Pavlopoulos: Tax burden on charities and social mission groups should change

President of Republic Prokopios Pavlopoulos on Friday asked for the correction of tax laws for charities and other organisations with a social mission, so they are not subject to the same tax rates as private and legal entities, during the inauguration of the “Smile of the Child” Panhellenic Health and Social Welfare Services Centre.

Pavlopoulos said that the organisation had supported not just children but essentially all of Greek society during the crisis, picking up the slack from a welfare state with great deficiencies.

From now on, these activities and services will be coordinated by the charity’s new centre, which will also house a health centre that offers a paediatric surgery, ophthalmologists and ear, nose and throat specialists.

The health centre, occupying the fifth floor at Omirou 6 in central Athens, is also directly linked with all children’s hospitals, state welfare services, the health ministry, the National Centre for Healthcare Operations, the ambulance service and the Hellenic Centre for Disease Control and Prevention. Examinations are carried out by appointment (booked at the telephone numbers 2056, 2107483655 και 2107484010) and are free of charge.

The centre’s inauguration was also attended by Health Minister Andreas Xanthos and SYRIZA MP Nikos Manios.
