ND’s Kikilias accuses government of how it handled the Prespes Agreement

Main opposition New Democracy (ND) party Shadow Defence Minister Vassilis Kikilias criticised on Sunday the government over the way it handled the Prespes Agreement.

More specifically, Mr. Kikilias accused the government of selling off the most important national acquis,  the inter-party consensus on the FYROM name issue. Mr. Kikilias blamed the government for sacrificing the national unity of the Greek population by dividing them over such a sensitive issue, the name dispute with the neighbouring state. According to the Opposition Party Shadow Defence Minister:

(Prime Minister Alexis) Tsipras and his collaborators handed over our historical achievements, undermining our national interests,” he said in a newspaper article issued on Sunday.

Mr. Kikilias explained that the political developments ever since the inception of the idea to reach an agreement with the neighbouring state until the ratification stage of the Prespes Agreement have had a deep transformative impact on the country and its citizens. The outcome nonetheless of this transformation was not as negative as it might seem to be at first sight. “The positive outcome is that despite the government propaganda, the Greeks have developed a new kind of patriotism based on the pure love for the country,” ND Shadow Defence Minister underlined.
