“Polarisation is an ideological choice for SYRIZA. It is the only time it is consistent… It was created, lives and exists through polarisation and the division. It constructs enemies in order to exist,” claimed main opposition New Democracy (ND) shadow foreign minister George Koumoutsakos in an interview on Tuesday. He said that his party will not follow SYRIZA down this slippery slope.
On the Prespes Agreement, Koumoutsakos highlighted two crucial issues that arise through the Prespes Agreement. The first, he noted, was the stance that Skopje will adopt within NATO and whether it will side Turkish or Greek interests. The second, he added, were the repercussion of the agreement with regard to the stance that Community law permits Greece to adopt during the negotiations for the neighbouring country’s accession to the EU.
