Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras will be among the heads of state and government attending the fifth Southern EU Countries (MED7) Summit taking place in Nicosia on Tuesday. The summit, which is taking place on Cyprus for the first time, will be attended by the presidents and prime ministers of Portugal, France, Spain, Italy, Malta, Greece and Cyprus.
According to sources, Tsipras is scheduled to have a private meeting with Cyprus President Nicos Anastasiades on Wednesday morning.
Cyprus government spokesman Prodromos Prodromou said that the issues to be discussed including some of Europe’s major challenges, focused on the Mediterranean, such as migration and the flow of refugees, as well as climate change and energy security. The talks will also touch on issues that affect Europe in general, such as Brexit, the Multiannual Financial Framework 2021-2027 and developments in the eurozone.
