Greece will stand by you, President Pavlopoulos said to unaccompanied refugee children at special parliament event
Dozens of unaccompanied refugee children were welcomed at the Greek Parliament’s cafeteria on Friday by President of the Republic Prokopios Pavlopoulos, Parliament President Nikos Voutsis and Migration Policy Minister Dimitris Vitsas, while the event was attended by European Commissioner for Humanitarian Aid and Crisis Management Christos Stylianides.
Pavlopoulos and Voutsis confirmed Greece’s and the Greek people’s concern, love and support for them until they are reunited with their families.
“I want to reassure you that until these tragic conditions that made you leave your country and you families end, Greece and the Greek society will embrace you with warmth and consider you its own children,” said Pavlopoulos.
“Do not judge the history and Europe’s culture by the leaderships of EU state-members that have fallen short of the circumstances and have not familiarised themselves yet with the core of its history and culture. Judge Europe and the European Union through Greece, and be sure that each Greek and every true European sympathises with your tragedy and also stands by you to share your pain, but most of all to ease as much as possible its repercussions,” said Pavlopoulos.
The Greek president wished to the children Happy Holidays and a Happy New Year, and a happy return to their homelands and families. “When this happens, with the help of God and true humanitarian people, may you always keep Greece and the Greek people always in your hearts as they keep you close to their hearts,” Pavlopoulos said.
