Greece compliant with Stability and Growth Pact, says Dombrovskis

“The Greek budget is deemed to be compliant with the requirements of the Stability and Growth Pact as the Greek budget is in surplus and Greece is aiming to meet next year’s primary surplus target of 3.5 pct of GDP,” European Commission Vice President Valdis Dombrovskis said in response to questions on Monday, as he arrived for a meeting of the Eurogroup.

Dombrovskis noted that the Eurozone finance ministers will be discussing the draft budgets of the Eurozone member-states in the framework of the European semester but that the meeting will focus mainly on deepening economic and monetary union and “move from discussions and decisions and provide meaningful imput for the Eurosummit and European summit that will take place later this month.”

“We hope to have decisions regarding the banking union, a backstop to the Single Resolution Fund, further steps towards EDIS and also fiscal instruments regarding the EMU,” he said.
