Giorgos Koumoutsakos: Prespes Agreement does not serve the national interests

Main opposition New Democracy (ND) shadow foreign minister Giorgos Koumoutsakos underlined that the country must know exactly its position in the world and to have geopolitical self-awareness, in an interview with on Sunday.

On the Prespes Agreement he reiterated that a solution is needed but not ‘any solution’ underlining that “the Prespes Agreement does not serve the national interests and for this reason does not close the open front”.

On Turkey and the research for hydrocarbons, Koumoutsakos noted that “It is Turkey’s responsibility that is left out from the energy developments in the eastern Mediterranean”.

Referring to the Greek-US relations he characterised them “relations of friendship, cooperation and alliance” noting that “it is a stable, fundamental parametre of the Greek foreign and defence policy” while on the relations with Russia he said that despite the recent turbulences the relations are friendly and functional”.

He proposed a series of institutional changes in the context of foreign policy noting that it is time for Greece to have a National Council of National Safety.
