Open call for participation at the International Cavafy Summer School 2019

The Onassis Foundation and the Cavafy Archive, invites students and scholars to participate to the 3rd Cavafy International Summer School which will take place from July 8 to 14, 2019, at the Onassis Library (56 Amalias Avenue, Plaka).

This scholarly institution is the first of its kind, devoted entirely to Cavafy and the impact of his work. For the third year in the row, it points the way toward new approaches and alternative understandings of the work of the great Alexandrian poet.

During the six days of intensive seminars and workshops, collectively titled “Cavafy’s Orient/ations” the summer school will focus on the multiple (geographical, aesthetic, historical, etc.) topographies and cultural dynamics of Cavafy’s work, and will approach the Cavafy phenomenon in its broader geographical and historical range, both during the period of his life in Alexandria and later on when his poetry became a major literary event at a global scale.

The 3rd Cavafy International Summer School is intended for graduate students, postdoctoral researchers, early-career scholars, as well as for academics whose research concerns fields such as comparative or world literature, Cavafy studies, Modern Greek or classical studies. The participants will have the opportunity to present their work to inspired workshop leaders.

Submission deadline: January 31 2019.

Admission to the Cavafy International School is free.
