Palestine awards medal of friendship to SYRIZA Central Committee secretary Skourletis
The Palestinian Ambassador Marwan Toubassi awarded on Thursday a medal of friendship to SYRIZA central committee secretary Panos Skourletis, in recognition of the efforts his party has made with regard to the Palestinian struggle.
The medal was awarded at the request of Palestinian leader Mahmoud Abbas.
During the ceremony held at the Palestinian Diplomatic Delegation headquarters in Athens, Skourletis was critical of U.S. policy in the Middle East and of the U.S. decision to choose Jerusalem as the future base of the American Embassy in Israel.
“It is not possible for any leader of our times to serve peace without attempting to find a fair solution to the Palestinian issue. And that solution is none other than recognising an independent, viable Palestinian State based on the 1967 borders and within the framework of the UN decisions.”
Toubassi said that the United States have been extreme in their decisions against Palestine, not only regarding Jerusalem but also on its treatment of refugees.
Present at the event were, among others, Ambassadors of Tunisia Lassaad M’hirsi and of Kuwait Saud Faisal Aldaweesh, as well as SYRIZA party members.
