Fofi Gennimata: Clergymen at risk of becoming victims of Tsipras’ political expediency

Movement for Change (KINAL) leader Fofi Gennimata on Wednesday met with a delegation of the Holy Association of the Greek Clergy.

Genimmata listened to their objections and arguments concerning the intended agreement between the State and the Church and the changes in their payroll.

After the end of their meeting in Genimmata’s office in parliament, she stated that the government is playing games with the clergy and called for the start of a calm dialogue on the distinct roles of Church and State.

“The Greek clergymen are at risk becoming the victims of Mr. Tsipras’ political expediencies. He can’t play with the fears of thousands of families by using the Greek people’s money. Nobody can play games with the labour and insurance rights of the clergymen. I ask these plans to stop and with prudence, respect and responsibility to discuss with the Church on its distinct role with respect to the State. It is a matter of democracy for both the Church and the State,” Gennimata said.
