The Prespes agreement “was the best possible agreement” said Citizen Protection Minister Olga Gerovassili in an interview. Commenting on Nikos Kotzias, she said that he was an “exceptional” foreign minister.
Commenting on the pressure the government is under, the minister said that “the government ship is moving ahead and will do so with all sails open until fall of 2019.” Asked by Athens Macedonian News Agency on the confrontation between Panos Kamenos, the head of Independent Greeks, and Kotzias, she recognised that “the consolidation of the collaborative culture and of the joint action on the basis of the programmatic convergence plan requires more maturity,” she said.
According to the minister, the only sure way for the sacrifices of the Greek people in recent years to be lost is if “the main opposition party takes over the government authority”. In comments referring specifically to the leader of New Democracy, Kyriakos Mitsotakis, she said that when he was Interior Minister he got rid of 6,700 organic job positions in the police while today “Mr. Mitsotakis is quick to take advantage communications wise different incidents, such as the recent example of the attack on the Omonia police station.”
But the minister is not concerned, as she said, because “our people have a memory and judgment and democratic reflexes and dignity.”
