Shipping and Island Policy Minister Fotis Kouvelis received Austrian Ambassador in Greece Andrea Ikic-Bohm at the ministry on Tuesday, following the latter’s initiative.
Ikic-Bohm discussed the priorities of the Council of the European Union’s revolving presidency which Austria currently holds, that include the security of sea borders and the management of increased migrant flows at the EU borders.
She also stressed the importance of safety issues on ships, especially ferries and the protection of the marine environment. She said 400,000 Austrian nationals visit Greece annually.
Kouvelis confirmed the strong collaboration between the two countries on managing migrant flows, and Greece’s commitment to EU regulations and the related treaties of the International Maritime Organization.
